John Dunne (Vocal)

Ζούσα στη μακρινή Νορβηγία. Τρελαμένος ανεβοκατέβαινα την Karl Johans όταν άκουσα μια φωνή μαγική να τραγουδά στο δρόμο. Πήγα κοντά (στον John Dunne),είχε μαζέψει πολύ κόσμο και άκουσα όλο του το σετ μέσα στο κρύο. Τελειώνοντας του έπιασα κουβέντα και του ζήτησα να πάμε για μια μπύρα. Δέχτηκε.Μου πε πως είναι Ιρλανδός και γενικά πήγαινε όπου τον πήγαινε η μοίρα του για να τη βγάλει. Έπινε...σαν Ιρλανδός!!

Per Sveinson (Bass)

Του είπα να μείνει στο σπίτι μου εκείνο το ΣΚ δεν είχε και κάπου να πάει....Ήρθε! Παίξαμε μαζί και ταιριάξαμε από τη πρώτη στιγμή. Του έπαιξα δικά μου πράματα,μου έπαιξε δικά του και για να μην τα πολυλογώ αρχίσαμε να βρισκόμαστε συχνά να γράφουμε τραγούδια και να φτιάξουμε μπάντα. Είχα ένα αργεντινό φίλο τον Luis και του ζήτησα να παίξει μαζί μας. Είπα και στο κάλο μου φίλο Per Sveinson να παίξει μπάσο. Tο γκρουπ ολοκληρώθηκε με τον  Bengt Jenssen κιμπορντίστα των Aunt Mary που γούσταρε τη φάση. Αρχίσαμε να εμφανιζόμαστε σαν Medusa δεξιά κι αριστερά,ερχόταν κόσμος να μας δει να μας κεράσει να περάσει καλά. Ηχογραφήσαμε και το πρώτο μας άλμπουμ μέχρι που πιάσανε τον John Dunne και τον απέλασαν. Χάλασε η φάση...

Eμενα λίγο αργότερα μου ζήτησαν να παίξω στους Lumbago, υπέγραψα σε μεγάλη εταιρεία.... τα υπόλοιπα είναι λίγο πολύ γνωστά σε όσους με παρακολουθούν.

Bengt Jensen (Keyboards)

 Έχω μια κακιά συνήθεια να κρατάω όλες μου τις ηχογραφήσεις. Κι έτσι τώρα κυκλοφορούν σχεδόν όλα μου τα άλμπουμ στη Νορβηγία σε cd. Έψαξα και ότι είχα από τη Μedusa. Και προς μεγάλη μου συγκίνηση βρήκα 4 κομμάτια από αυτά που ετοιμάζαμε με τον John αλλά που δυστυχώς δεν έγινε εφικτό να παίξουμε λόγω απέλασης. Έκανα λοιπόν ένα καινούργιο ρεμιξ που είναι πιο σύγχρονο αλλά στα αυτιά μου μια κατάθεση ψυχής για μια εποχή που οι ηχογραφήσεις είχαν ψυχή και όχι μετρονόμο κι ας γινόντουσαν λάθη. Δε γ@@@@ς! Medusa - Medusing (1979).

Medusa was a multi racial quintet with Greek, Irish, Norwegian and Argentinean members. Thanasis Zlatanos (guitar) John Dunne (vocals) Bengt Jensen (keyboards) Per Sveinson (bass) and Luis Maria Gambolini (drums).

LP: Medusing (1979) Recorded in Norway in 1979 but shelved until 2003 when a Greek label Ikaros Music rescued it from oblivion. Prog Jazz Rock.

Klaus Schulze ‎- "X" 1978 (Brain)

X is the tenth album by Klaus Schulze. It was originally released in 1978, and in 2005 was the fifth Schulze album reissued by Revisited Records.

On X Schulze attempted to execute a concept album of six "musical biographies" evoking contemporary or historical intellectuals with an influence on Schulze: Friedrich Nietzsche, Georg Trakl, Frank Herbert, Friedemann Bach, Ludwig II. von Bayern, and Heinrich von Kleist. (In Ludwig II. von Bayern Schulze uses a theme borrowed from the third movement of Vivaldi's Concerto No. 11 in D minor (RV565) for 2 violins, cello and strings.) The work is from the classic era of Berlin School.

For two of the tracks, "Friedemann Bach" and "Ludwig II. von Bayern" (as well as the first few minutes of "Heinrich von Kleist") Schulze recorded a modest string orchestra and looped them on tape. He had done this in 1972 on his first solo album, Irrlicht, but this time he did not filter the orchestra beyond recognition. The mixture of classical music and unearthly electronic sounds gives X a much more organic sound than anything Schulze's contemporaries were doing at the time, such as Jean Michel Jarre's Equinoxe. On following releases Schulze employed a cello, particularly on Dune.

‘A good place to start… Her basic sound and image were interior-life bohemian, and in some ways she was cagey with her talent. She didn’t belt or improvise broadly. She picked a limited range of notes and climbed into them, applying a pinch of vibrato, letting her voice fade and crackle. These tracks clearly demonstrate her guiding desire, which was to explore the possibilities of the slow blues in the late 20th century, whatever that might mean. Some of the most intense recordings she made were English-language covers or Japanese rewrites of American jazz standards, blues songs and spirituals, backed by only acoustic guitar and drums. She sang slowly, as if there were weights on her. And after a while of her working and your listening, you’ll hear it: the way she connects intimately with her task but keeps something private for herself’ (New York Times).

Ziad Rahbani, Joseph Sacre - Bennesbeh Labokra... Chou? 1978 (Zida)

A really fantastic record from the Lebanese composer Ziad Rahbani – music for a play, but a set that's also got a fair bit of bossa nova elements too! The songs are a mix of vocal numbers that are more straightforward and Mid-East in style, and instrumentals that blend jazz with light orchestrations that would have been right at home on Elenco Records in Brazil during the 60s – sophisticated, but gently grooving – in a way that's completely sublime! Joseph Sacre handles the vocals on the tracks with lyrics – and those range from midtempo numbers that have a fair bit of percussion and woodwinds, to one number that gets a bit more upbeat and grooving. The instrumentals dominate, in a really great way – and titles include "Last Scene", "Second Introduction", "Al Bosta", "Reda", and five "Variation" tracks.

Mandré ‎– Mandré 1977 (Motown)

Mandre was a group that Andre Lewis started in 1977 as a continuation of the gospel/soul group “Maxayn” which was named after the lead singer Maxayn Lewis, Andre’s wife. While the Maxayn group had been playing gospel and soul with Maxayn Lewis on lead vocals, the Mandre group was Andre’s project to add electronic elements and also shift the sound toward more spacey funk and disco. Andre also played keyboards for Frank Zappa, Buddy Miles, LaBelle, Earth Wind and Fire, Huey Lewis, Edwin Starr, Charles Wilson and the Gap Band, Sly Stone, Bobby Womack, Johnny Guitar Watson and a handful of others. He was also a tester of Roland products and was one of the first musicians to record with the infamous Roland TR-808 drum machine.
