Moe Koffman – Moe's Curried Soul 1970 (Kama Sutra)

Moe Koffman was a Canadian jazz musician who played not only the flute but also rocked the sax and clarinet (just like our very own Trampy). Having established his reputation as a talented flautist in the late 1950s and 1960s, Moe's Curried Soul saw Koffman move from straight-up jazz into the world of fusion. Released in 1969 on Karma Sutra records, Curried Soul is a funk/soul/jazz explosion. The title track is the winner here, funky and jazzy in equal measure. If you can tolerate jazz flute you'll surely find a lot to like – great guitar, nice horn section and (presumably to justify the "curried" part of the title) just a tickle of sitar ... all of which builds to a satisfyingly cosmic finale. The rest of the album has a definite 1970s Sesame Street vibe going on (particularly the cover of You Are My Sunshine which jars somewhat as it immediately follows Curried Soul) but Koffman's covers of High Heel Sneakers and Cantelope Island are worth a listen.By Trampy and the Tramp

Gary Burton - Good Vibes 1971 (Atlantic)
Value :
Gary Burton hits a sweet electric funky sound here – a great groove that really makes the album stand out from most of his other work! The support Burton gets is a big reason for the greatness of the date – as he's working in a group that includes Eric Gale on guitar, Richard Tee on piano and organ, Chuck Rainey on bass, and Bernard Purdie on drums. The album's got a bit of trippiness to it – kind of in the style of some of Herbie Mann's funky production work for the Vortex label – and a few cuts have producer Joel Dorn working with Arif Mardin on the cuts, giving them a more expansive sound that pushes Burton's playing nicely.

This double LP by Sandro Brugnolini under the pseudonym of Narassa, is a mix of funk and progressive rock with drums, electric guitar, organ and flute lead the way. Recorded in early 70’s there are clear references to those who at the time was the international rock and prog standard, but clearly all reread and interpreted in the Italian style that distinguished us.

Gabor Szabo – In Budapest 2008 (Moiras)

The Hungarian-born jazz guitar legend was at the peak of his career in 1974, when he first visited his abandoned homeland after 18 years of absence. He was invited by the Hungarian Television to record a few tracks with session musicians of his choice. The project came to life in September 1974, when six artists gathered in a studio of the Hungarian Radio and gave an hour-long, live concert. The program was compiled mostly of material from Szabo’s albums published in the West, as well, as arrangements of Hungarian and international pop hits. The sessions’ television broadcast was quite a success that in fact officially introduced this great artist to his homeland’s audience. Piero Umiliani with Gato Barbieri - Una Bella Grinta 1968 (Cam)

An amazing set of modern jazz – penned by Italian film composer Piero Umiliani, but also played by a very hip group headed by a young Gato Barbieri! Although Gato's probably best known for his late 60s appearances on the American scene, and his 70s dates for Impulse and Flying Dutchman – his earlier work in Italy is all pretty darn great, and this set shows the budding modernist to be in very strong company with a lineup that includes Enrico Rava on trumpet and Franco D'Andrea on piano, plus bass and drums. Side one of the record features full orchestrations by Umiliani – still plenty jazzy, with some great horn passages and cool use of vibes. Then side two features Umiliani's music played by the small group with Gato in the lead – a really great mix of modes that make the soundtrack a real standout, both in the Italian jazz and film scenes of the 60s.

τον κολλητό μου και κουμπάρο μου αργότερα Θεμιστοκλής Κυριαζής
παίζαμε Soul ,Funk και Hammond Jazz μουσικές στο Στρεφταρι. Πράγματα
πρωτάκουστα για το κοινό του Βόλου. H Ms. Jones ήταν παντα μέσα.Και όλο
και κάποιος/α θα ρωτούσε : Πως λέγετε το τραγούδι που παίζει??!
Το 2005 έρχεται το δεύτερο lp της “Naturally” παρέα με τους Dap Kings. Η διασκευή στο “This Land Is Your Land” του Woody Guthrie την απογειώνει. Ο κόσμος μαθαίνει τι είναι soul τι είναι funk.Τα ραδιόφωνα αρχίζουν να παίζουν απ το πρωί ως το βράδυ “This Land Is Your Land” και μαζί με την Ms.Jones και άλλους καλλιτέχνες και μπάντες όπως, τους The Soul Providers τους Sugarman Three , Lee Fields , Spanky Wilson. Χαμός…..
Για μένα η Ms. Jones, αν και παλιά καραβάνα, έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο στην αναβίωση της soul funk σκηνής των 00’s.
Καλό ταξίδι MISS JONES και σε ευχαριστώ.
Υ.Γ Απο κάτω μια ταινία που δυστυχώς στην Ελλάδα δεν ήρθε ποτέ. Καιρός να την ανακαλύψουμε.

Right in time for the midsummer comes the balearic porn disco soundtrack sex feverreleased by vinyl of austria group – vienna distributed by private records (berlin), . The original 1978 movie takes place on a tropical island and features german (bravo) teen idols bea fiedler and olivia pascal as main actors in a typical revealing sex & crime story.The score was written and composed by austrian producer gerhard heinz from vienna. This production is one of the most homogenous and multifaceted albums of heinz in existance. Strangely the score got never released and existed only as rumor in the soundtrack collector scene because of some smashing moroderish disco and disco earwigs which pop up several times during the movie. But also the psychedelic ambient long versions tempel, lokal and the afro track eingeborenen tanz are scoring.

To 1975 στο φεστιβάλ Καννών προβάλετε το πορνογράφημα του
Lasse Braun (κανονικό του όνομα Alberto Ferro) με τίτλο
"Sensation".Το φιλμ προκάλεσε έντονες αντιδράσεις. Λογικό, αφού η ιστορία
έχει να κάνει με δυο Αγγλιδουλες οι οποίες ταξιδεύουν ως το Άμστερνταμ αναζητώντας
την απόλυτη σεξουαλική εμπειρία δίχως όρια και ενδοιασμούς. Προσπερνώντας το
στορρυ και παρατηρώντας τα πλάνα τη φωτογραφία (Falcon Stuart συνεργάστηκε με
Peter Blake και Robert Altman) την παράγωγη και την αισθητική βλέπουμε ένα αποτέλεσμα
που όμοιο του δεν υπάρχει. Ακόμα και η μουσική είναι γραμμένη εξ ολοκλήρου γι αυτό
το φιλμ απο κάποιον Richard Moore. Ένα mix απο prograssive rock,pop και funk! Δεν
ξέρω ποιος κρύβεται πίσω απ το όνομα Richard Moore. Ξέρω όμως ότι στο μπάσο ήταν
ο Adrian Shaw (The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown και Hawkwind) και στη παράγωγη
του δίσκου ξανά βλέπω τον Falcon Stuart ο οποίος ήταν μάνατζερ και μουσικός παραγωγός
αργότερα των X-Ray Spex,Adam and the Ants και της Danielle Dax. Τέλος το
Sensation είναι η πρώτη πορνογραφική ταινία που κυκλοφόρησε επίσημα στις ΗΠΑ.
Sensations is a 1975 hard core pornographic film written by Veronique Monet and directed by Alberto Ferro. It stars the writer and Brigitte Maier and features an appearance by Tuppy Owens. It was exhibited at the Cannes Film Festival and became the first European pornographic film to be distributed in the USA.
The music is a mix of prog rock , funk, and strange French 70s pop, with a small funk group backing.

Sahib Shihab – Summer Dawn 1964 (Argo)

A fantastic early record by Sahib Shihab – a motherlode of modal jazz grooves, cut during the early days of the Clarke-Boland Big Band! The record features a core group of players from that ensemble – including Shihab on alto, baritone, and flute, plus Francy Boland on piano, Jimmy Woode on bass, Ake Persson on trombone, Francy Boland on piano, Joe Harris on bongos, and Kenny Clarke on drums – all coming together here with a groove that's really groundbreaking – a style that's sweet and soulful, but rhythmically revolutionary too! The tracks are all long and grooving – with the kind of dancing jazz tone that you'd expect from the Saba/MPS label during the mid 60s – a big change from the Argo label that originally issued the record. But that's no surprise, either, as the session was actually recorded in Europe by Gigi Campi – the man behind the CBBB albums on MPS – with a feel that's quite similar to other Shihab classics, like Companionship or Seeds. The record is lively, yet sophisticated – with strong arrangements by Gaya and Moacir Santos, and a vocal approach by Nana that really moves past the sweeter sound of other bossa singers – into a mode that's rich with feeling, without sounding too overwrought or overemotional – in sharp contrast to the style of Brazilian divas from a few years before.

Terry Callier - What Color Is Love 1972 (Cadet)

Possibly the greatest album ever by the legendary Chicago soul singer Terry Callier! Terry's rich mellow voice is mixed with superb arrangements from the Cadet studio team, with Charles Stepney at the head, and the result is completely sublime. The songs are longer than on earlier albums – and spun out with a complex groove that mixes equal parts of jazz, folk, and soul with the soaring spiritual vibe that was running through the Chicago scene at the time. The first side alone is the stuff that legends are made of – with classic tracks like "Dancing Girl", "What Color is Love", and "You Goin' Miss Your Candyman" all in a row, sewn together in a wash of love, soul, and emotion that you'd be hard pressed to find on any other album from the time.By Dusty.

Here we go and check some rather fresh band : I FENOMENI, formed in 2010 in Italy with the intention to create the dirtiest and most fuzzed out garage beat ever. Dirty guitar sounds and cheesy Farfisa organ lines on a solid and straightly pushing rhythmical substraction with some melodic vocals sung in Italian language are the ingredients of a joy – and colorful record that feels like a lost gem from not later than 1967. Nobody could tell this was first released in 2013 and reissued right now. Sound, interplay, melodies and spirit speak of smoky clubs with swirls of colors ornamenting the walls and acid drenched drinks being served by topless waitresses in short skirts.
You find yourself back in the mid sixties when it all began and the music here brings to mind tons of popular acts from that era. Starting with the early BYRDS, moving along to the US underground heroes such as THE SEEDS, THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK, THE THIRD BARDO or the later ANIMALS and psyched out JEFFERSON AIRPLANE stuff. If you look for innovations, please stop reading and grab some modern progressive rock for your own joy but if you want to be swallowed into a tunnel of sounds and colors where you can trip easy and free, this is yours. Despite the rather short length of these acid garage beat tunes you will leave what people call reality for a while. Everything here just grabs my soul and melts it away. Memorable melodies, moody riffs and those simmering fuzzed out lead guitars get me lose my senses.
This is definitely addictive stuff. If you are a fan of current acid rock like BABY WOODROSE you will not only dig but definitely worship I FENOMENI. The language is rather not important in this context as the voice alone is commanding and you understand the message without understanding the language. Beautiful and haunting. John "Johnny" Keating (10 September 1927 – 28 May 2015) was a Scottish musician, songwriter and arranger.
Keating arranged and conducted a series of albums for London Records' Phase 4 series, notable for its use of synthesiser technology such as the Moog synthesizer and the EMS VCS 3.
The records were often used as demonstration discs in the 1970s in
Hi-Fi stores because of their quality. Much of his work was rereleased
following the Lounge music revival of the mid 1990s and its use as breakbeats.Taste :

«Διάστημα 1999» (αγγλ. “Space 1999”) είναι αγγλική τηλεοπτική σειρά επιστημονικής φαντασίας, που προβλήθηκε σε 48 συνολικά επεισόδια κατά τη διάρκεια των ετών 1975-1978 στο βρετανικό τηλεοπτικό κανάλι ITV και αποτελεί την επιτυχή εξέλιξη των παλαιότερων παραγωγών του καναλιού BBC της δεκαετίας του ‘60, οι οποίες ήταν γυρισμένες σε στούντιο. Δημιουργοί της είναι οι Τζέρι και Σίλβια Άντερσον, που έγιναν διάσημοι χάρη στην παραγωγή των σειρών «Thunderbirds», «Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons», «Fireball XL5» και «UFO».

Στις 13 Σεπτεμβρίου του μελλοντικού έτους 1999, στην κατοικημένη από γήινους Σελήνη, μια πυρηνική έκρηξη που σημειώνεται εκτρέπει το δορυφόρο από την τροχιά του με αποτέλεσμα οι 311 κάτοικοι της «Σεληνόβασης Άλφα» να περιπλανώνται αβοήθητοι στο αχανές σύμπαν.
Οι βασικοί πρωταγωνιστές του σίριαλ ήταν οι Αμερικανοί ηθοποιοί Μάρτιν Λαντάου (στο ρόλο του Διοικητή Τζον Κόνιγκ) και Μπάρμπαρα Μπέιν (στο ρόλο της Δρ. Έλενα Ράσελ), οι οποίοι την εποχή που γυρίστηκε η σειρά ήταν σύζυγοι και είχαν προηγουμένως μια επιτυχή εμφάνιση στη σειρά «Mission: Impossible». Η επιλογή του συγκεκριμένου ζεύγους που έγινε από τον παραγωγό Λιου Γκρέιντ (κόντρα στην επιθυμία της Σίλβια Άντερσον, που επέμενε για Βρετανούς ηθοποιούς) έχει να κάνει με την προσπάθεια να προσελκυσθεί το ενδιαφέρον του Αμερικανικού τηλεοπτικού κοινού, με πιθανό στόχο η σειρά να πωληθεί σε κάποιο από τα μεγάλα τηλεοπτικά δίκτυα των ΗΠΑ.
Επίσης, χάρις στο σίριαλ έγινε ευρύτερα γνωστός ο Αυστραλός ηθοποιός Νικ Τέιτ (σαν Άλαν Κάρτερ).

Les Baxter – Hell's Belles 1969 (Sidewalk)

Fantastic funkiness! Although Les Baxter's best known for his easy listening work in the late 50s/early 60's, this 1969 biker flick soundtrack is a motherlode of funky funky tracks, and a veritable cornucopia of breakbeats! Highlights include the classics "Hogin' Machine" and "Hot Wind", but there's lots of other nice ones like "Soul Groove" and "Scoobee Doo". The drums are nice and hard, and there's plenty of fuzzy fuzzy guitar to go around nicely! A few tracks have vocals, but the instrumentals more than make up for any weak spots. Essential.

This isn't your everyday sci-fi animé score - Yuji Ohno's classy compositions for this 1970s TV series are more inspired by jazz and pop than the futuristic world inhabited by the characters. imagine a world of New York cops and private eyes, filtered through an eastern eye and transported to Japanese animation - that might get you in the direction of these masterful compositions. Easy as it is to make such claims, we feel this must have been an inspiration for a certain pair of French robots when they set about putting together their pop-tinged second album. Composer and multi-instrumentalist is a seminal yet under-recognized artist on the Nigerian music scene of the 1970s. Though he recorded nine albums in Africa, the U.S., and U.K., Shango is the only one currently available. Recorded in 1974, Peter King's Shango is a mixture of hard African rhythms, James Brown-styled funk, jazzed-up horn arrangements, and political messages.
