New York City is chock-full of sick and twisted individuals looking for sexual gratification any way they can get it. And this depraved double feature certainly proves the point!
      Angelique in Black Leather offers a glimpse into the secret lives of beautiful lesbians with a penchant for domination and fetish wear. Lovely Angelique is a sexy doe-eyed blonde submissive whose life revolves around her cruel, black leather-clad lover, Suzanne. Angelique watches her mistress don the apparel as she prepares to have a clandestine rendezvous but jealously follows Suzanne until she disappears on a bus, never to learn who she was going to see. While strolling down the street, Angelique is approached by a magnificent blonde woman, Dominique. The glamazon invites the girl to her apartment for a drink, and eventually the two are enjoying some afternoon delight on a bearskin rug by a roaring fire. Later, Angelique fantasizes about Suzanne and Dominique together.
      Frustrated with her situation, Angelique invites her cute butch friend Jenelle over (played by MARIA LEASE of I Want You! and Wall of Flesh). The two smoke some hashish, watch some 8mm stag films, and for the first time, Angelique takes the initiative, inviting Jenelle to shower with her. Suzanne returns home and discovers Jenelle there. She immediately starts cruising her. Angelique watches until Suzanne is completely worked up into a lather, then makes her move. Wearing her mistress’s black leather gloves and dominatrix attire, Angelique takes charge and humiliates Suzanne with a candle stick. The tables have been deliciously turned…By somethingweird.

Nino Nardini ‎- Jungle Obssession 1971 (Neuilly)

Mad mad work from the great Nino Nardini – one of the greatest keyboard players to ever grace the sound library scene! This album was never officially issued, but is an incredibly strong bit of "commercial music", created initially for use by radio and TV stations, but just as good as anything that was on the market at the time. The music is a mix of jazz funk and 70s exotica – played on electric and acoustic instruments, mixing piano, moog, and congas into a swirling blend that's similar to the group Mandingo, but which also has lots of other 70s soundtrack elements. The track "Jungle Obsession" begins with a nice little drumbreak, then rolls into some wild bass-y moog riffs punctuated by other bits of computer music. Other tracks have voices, percussion, and even a bit of strings – and the whole thing's an extremely fresh bit of jungle funk!

Pete La Roca - Turkish Women At The Bath 1967 (Douglas)

Despite the stupid name (or perhaps because of it), this is one of the great lost sessions of the 60s! Drummer Pete LaRoca originally cut this set for the tiny Douglas label, and the session's an amazing bit of modernist jazz that features a rare non-Sun Ra appearance by tenorist John Gilmore. Gilmore's playing is fantastic, and quite different from that on some of his Ra albums – probably because the rest of the quartet features Chick Corea and Walter Booker, who groove in a very modal vein. The material's out, but not too out – and although Corea and Gilmore's solos are quite far-reaching, they also snap back nicely into the tight playing of the ensemble. And forget all of your biases against Corea – because at this young age, his playing is great!

John Gordon - Erotica Suite 1978 (Strata East)

A fantastic little record – and very much the kind of set that the Strata East label was created to represent! The music here would hardly have found a home on the bigger jazz labels of the period – not because it's too avant garde or non-commercial, but just because it's so deeply personal and powerful – the boldest vision on record of trombonist John Gordon, who composed a mindblowing suite of tracks for the first side of the album, as well as some equally great tunes for the second half! Gordon leads the group on trombone – with solos that are soaring and soulful, alongside work by the great James Spaulding on alto and flute, Waymond Reed on trumpet, John Miller on piano and keyboards, Lyle Atkinson on bass, and Frank Derrick on drums! If you know some of the other players here from their own work of the time, you know you're in for a treat – as the music has this fantastic sound of strong individual voices coming together, instruments lifted high on a mission of music – with results that are as fantastic all these many years as they were in the 70s.
