Produced by Quincy Jones, Masterjam was the band's fourth album to top Billboard's R&B Albums chart, and also reached number 14 on thePop chart. The album includes the singles "Do You Love What You Feel", their fourth #1 hit on the R&B Singles chart and also #30 on Pop, "Any Love" (US R&B #24, 1980) and "I'm Dancing for Your Love" (US R&B #43, 1980). In 1979, Chaka Khan found solo success with the release of the album, Chaka, and its parent single, "I'm Every Woman", which became her signature song years before "I Feel for You".
However, Khan wanted to remain a member of her long-standing band Rufus, a group she had joined in 1972. Since their 1973 debut, Khan had led on most of the group's songs. While Ron Stockert, an earlier member, had added vocals to the debut and their follow-up, Rags to Rufus, Stockert left after complaining of their label's focus on Khan, and Tony Maiden would begin to lead on more songs as the seventies drew to a close, Khan's presence continued to boost the group.
For their first album with MCA Records, which had absorbed ABC Records a year before, the group enlisted Jones to help them with the record (Khan had recorded with Jones the year before for his album Sounds...and Stuff Like That!!). The group, while still with Khan, was now starting to record without her, while Khan was starting to express a view of going solo for good while still performing with the group onstage. Despite this, the album became a success upon its release. Following Masterjam Chaka Khan recorded her second solo album Naughty and Rufus Party 'Til You're Broke, released in 1980 and 1981 respectively. Khan reunited with the band again in 1981 for the recording of Camouflage.
Jones had also brought in the Seawind Horns for help, as well as The Brothers Johnson for additional percussion help. Rufus even does a funked-up cover of Jones's own "Body Heat".

Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (Italian: Emanuelle e gli Ultimi Cannibali) is a 1977 Italian cannibal film directed by Joe D'Amato. The film involves Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) a photojournalist who discovers a woman in a mental hospital who is a cannibal who has tattoos of an Amazonian tribe on her skin. Along with Professor Mark Lester (Gabriele Tinti), the two travel to the Amazon with a team to discover the source of the long-thought-extinct tribe that still practices cannibalism today.
The film is an entry in the Black Emanuelle series and features elements of cannibal films which had just gained popularity after the release of Ultimo mondo cannibale (1977). D'Amato referred it in an interview as "a reasonable commercial success, especially abroad"

 

Plot

 

In a New York City psychiatric ward, photojournalist Emanuelle learns about a girl there who was found in the Amazon rainforest. Emanuelle discovers that she appears to have been raised by the Apiaca, a tribe of cannibals thought to be lost. She contacts Professor Mark Lester, the curator at the American Museum of Natural History, and persuades him to come with her to the Amazon.
Upon arrival at the Amazon, they are joined by Isabel Wilks, the daughter of the organizer of the expedition, and Sister Angela, who is going upriver to join a mission. Attacked by a snake, Emanuelle is rescued by hunter Donald Mackenzie, who joins the group together with his wife Maggie and their guide Salvatore and informs Sister Angela that her convent has been attacked by what they presume to be cannibals, and that no survivors remain.
The group continues into the jungle, now being watched by natives in hiding. They find a severed head on a stake, and Sister Angela disappears to be found impaled the next morning. Meanwhile, the Mackenzies attempt to leave the group in an attempt to find a crashed plane containing diamonds. As they stumble upon the plane, they are attacked by a tribe of cannibals. Donald and Maggie are kidnapped. The rest of the group only arrive in time to see it happen. They attempt to find the cannibal village. Upon their arrival, the cannibals kill Salvatore and capture Isabel. Mark and Emanuelle manage to escape only to watch the Mackenzies being brutally murdered and Isabel impregnated by the tribe in preparation for sacrifice. To save Isabel, Emanuelle paints tribal symbols on her body to convince the natives that she is their water goddess, and carries Isabel away into the water where Mark is waiting in a speedboat. Shot at by the natives with spears, Mark, Emanuelle and Isabel still manage to escape unharmed.

Daniel Grau ‎– Disco Fantasy 1979 (London)

This 1979 release has been the fourth solo effort of Venezuelan composer and musician Daniel Grau. The music has been settled at the pulse of its time for certain. Discofunk with a Latin melody and rhythm approach surely was the hottest thing among the dancing folks back in the day and the rather futuristical synthesizer arrangements turn these memorable tunes into a spacey and spicy affair. The sound is perfect and the performance equals its package. The compositions are quite long all in all and therefore have a hypnotical effect on the listener and dancer. The continuing pulsating groove comes in a repetitive manner creating a floating atmosphere. This record is surely a product of its era and made for disco lovers to dance on through the simmering nights, but unlike most mainstream disco albums this record opens the gate to another dimension touching the senses of everybody in reach when it gets played on the turntable. Next to the similar massive Donna Summer works like “I feel love” this is the true essence of disco music just entirely instrumental with an emphasize on synthesizer melodies instead of vocals. Drift away into your disco fantasy, folks!

Maya's "Lait De Coco", a deliciously glassy-eyed chunk of mid-'80s Gallic pop with a decidedly Balearic bent, has recently undergone something of a revival is serious selector circles. Since copies of original 1987 7" copies have been known to change hands for eye-watering sums online, Attic Salt Discs has done the decent thing and offered up this tasty 10" reissue. Particularly alluring is the flipside Dub, which in true '80s instrumental style flits between spine-tingling ambient passages, delay-laden vocal selections, twinkling piano motifs and an even more glassy-eyed take on the warm and loved-up backing track. That said, the sax-laden A-side vocal version, the epitome of soft-focus European synth-pop goodness from the period, is also superb.

Ziad Rahbani is a cultural icon in Lebanon. The musician, pianist and producer is also a renowned playwright and a political activist, one of the most important exponent of the lebanese left-wing counterculture to emerge from the 70s. ? Coming out of an illustrious artistic dynasty (his father is the famous composer and musician Assi Rahbani, member of group The Rahbani Brothers and his mother is the legendary Middle East Diva, Fairuz), Ziad Rahbani started his music career during his late teens, composing music for his mother.
Rahbani quickly spread his wings further. He started producing his own music during the early 70s and released records under his own name at 17. Among these was "Abu Ali" recorded in Greece at the EMI Studios in Athens in 1978 with a full orchestra (there he also recorded his mother's album "Wahdon") and released it as a limited run EP for the lebanese market. Legend has it that the album was only pressed at 500 unit hence its rarity.
The result is a fabulous New York-meets-Beyrouth Disco exctasy developing over two 13-min tracks and one of the most collectible albums on the international dance and disco scene which Wewantsounds is happy to finally make available.

The sound is electric, but also pretty darn funky – not the colder electro disco that would dominate the European scene in the 80s, but the earlier mode that often had lots of live instrumentation at the core – then augmented by sweet touches on moog and other keyboards! The instrumentation is nice and tight throughout – and the whole thing is very much in the best moogy disco modes of the underground – maybe a bit more offbeat than a record on P&P, but with a similar appeal at times.

 Nigeria had a unique music scene which began spreading rapidly in the 1970s. The era was based on unspoiled use of fuzz pedal, keyboards and indisputable influences of the Psychedelic Blues bands of the West. In 1980 Effi Duke & The Love Family came out with their debut Mr. Love. It was released by Homzy Records which was a home of many Afro-Funk records, going strong from mid '70s toward '80s. Effi Duke & The Love Family being one of their most energetic albums. The '80s were definitely more into a jazzy sound with disco slowly infiltrating the African music scene. What's so unique about Mr. Love is Effi Duke's love for guitar based Jazz and together with African rhythms and funky bass, his album is a Funk/Jazz/Disco hybrid. He's an incredible guitarist and also at the time of this LP an ex-Wings member. They were one of the most popular bands from Nigeria. Effi Duke was a key part of the scene with being member of The Wings, The Visitors, The Apostles, he played also the guitars on Mary Afi Usuah's fantastic second LP African Woman (which will be also rereleased on PMG) and on many other great albums including the incredible Folk 77 album.

A 70s New York classic – the first and best album by Eddie Drennon! Eddie's got a unique sound that's part soul and part Latin – grooving here in a Latin Hustle mode that brings together gliding strings, floating chorus vocals, and a heavier funk-based set of rhythms that really kicks up the groove! Club diva Esther Williams is one of the singers in the group, and the mix of strings and funk is completely sublime throughout! Great cuts include the heavily funky (and often sampled) "Theme In Search", which has a very dark groove that we can't get enough of, and the club classic "Do What You Gotta Do" – but there's also loads of other nice ones, like "Let's Do It Again", "Please Stay Please Stay", and "Get Down, Do The Latin Hustle"

Chilly was a popular German Euro disco/rock band at the end of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s. Their most famous songs include hits like "Friday On My Mind",'Johnny Loves Jenny', 'Come to L.A.', 'Simply a Love Song', 'For Your Love' and 'Get Up And Move'.
The Song "For Your Love" was originally written by Graham Gouldman (later of 10cc fame) and performed by the Yardbirds in 1965. Chilly's version was produced by the composer and author Bernt Moehrle, who created with this song a new standard in Disco music in the late 70s and early 80s. His version was used and remixed among others by DJ Hell on the album Munich Machine. It was also re-released in 2006 by the French label D-Classics in an edited version called "4 Love" made by Dylan Petit and in 2011 by Chocolate Puma feat. Colonel Red.

After Galaxy-Lin Robbie van Leeuwen en Rick van der Linden started another project named Mistral. They used a variety of uncredited featuring vocalists for their recordings. Their first hit "Jamie", in 1977, featured Sylvia van Asten of Funny Face. Next year it was succeeded by "Starship 109", featuring Marjan Schatteleyn and their last hit "Neon City" featured Mariska Veres (the voice of Robbie's earlier band Shocking Blue). In 1980 three more singles followed. "You're my hero" features Sheen Milholland (who already had recorded "(You're) my hero" as Sheen in early 1976). Their last single "I feel it" by the end of 1980, featured Cheyenne-vocalist Julia Loko. Those last three singles no longer were hits. This only mentions the vocalists that got known.

The original 1978 movie takes place on a tropical island and features german (bravo) teen idols bea fiedler and olivia pascal as main actors in a typical revealing sex & crime story.The score was written and composed by austrian producer gerhard heinz from vienna. This production is one of the most homogenous and multifaceted albums of heinz in existance. Strangely the score got never released and existed only as rumor in the soundtrack collector scene because of some smashing moroderish disco and disco earwigs which pop up several times during the movie. But also the psychedelic ambient long versions tempel, lokal and the afro track eingeborenen tanz are scoring.

Λίγο αργότερα εμφανίστηκε σε ένα τηλεοπτικό show στην Πράγα, το οποίο της έδωσε την ευκαιρία να τραγουδήσει στο κορυφαίο Night club του ξενοδοχείου Yalta. Whirlwinds is sweet keyboard soul from Deodato – a set that steps off nicely from the strengths of his big hits on CTI, hitting a similarly flowing groove that's really great! The instrumentation here is a bit more expanded than before, but never in a way that buries the keyboards – and Deodato's right out front on a range of electric keys that get some great support from John Tropea's finely-honed work on guitar! Titles include "Havana Strut", "Whirlwinds", "West 42nd Street", and a nice cover of Steely Dan's "Do It Again". And heck, even the album's version of Glen Miller's "Moonlight Serenade" manages to come off like a funk tune!By Dusty
