60s jazz meets Japanese bamboo flute – all in a session with a great mix
of groovy and exotic touches! The record's a unique meeting of jazz
and folkloric elements – done in a style that's a bit like some of the
late 60s sessions of this nature on MPS, but a fair bit groovier overall
– as the tracks are shorter and more focused, and often have a nice
sort of bounce at the bottom. Flute is by Minoru Muraoka, and
arrangements are by Takashi Ikeda and Kozaburo Yamaki, conducting their
New Dimension and New Emotion groups respectively. Bits of sitar bring
in an even groovier sound to the record – and the flute itself has some
oddly off-kilter notes that further trip out the tunes.
The best and most valued volume of GLP series featuring the fantastic
modal madness of "André", "Peroche", "Suoni Distorti" and the milestone
“Alfio” feat the flute by Alfio Galigani. The music goes from insane
Psychedelic tunes to Jazz, Funk and more Bossa and Lounge tracks with
plenty of Fuzz guitars, amazing Hammond job, and totally catching drum
Breaks. An insane trip into early gold Italian Psychedelic and
Underground vibes with loads of laden beats and grooves with the mark of
the legendary Italian quartet. Simply essential!
We're glad to announce the reissue of this gem by the Library 'cult' group I MARC 4.
Probably the toughest and most Psychedelic Nelson volume by the
legendary italian studio combo. A killer blend of Downtempo Funk, dope
atmospheres and themes and Lounge Bossa cocktail music. Includes just
fantastic tracks like "Distorsion-Mind" and "The Trip", heavy
Psychedelic shots with screaming organ, "Compression" with mellow
acoustic guitar and raw drums break plus other rare and mental tracks
with great samples and loops. Totally KILLER session and essential
Italian Library record.
Produced by Quincy Jones, Masterjam was the band's fourth album to top Billboard's R&B Albums chart, and also reached number 14 on thePop chart. The album includes the singles "Do You Love What You Feel",
their fourth #1 hit on the R&B Singles chart and also #30 on Pop,
"Any Love" (US R&B #24, 1980) and "I'm Dancing for Your Love" (US
R&B #43, 1980). In 1979, Chaka Khan found solo success with the
release of the album, Chaka, and its parent single, "I'm Every Woman", which became her signature song years before "I Feel for You".
However, Khan wanted to remain a member of her long-standing band
Rufus, a group she had joined in 1972. Since their 1973 debut, Khan had
led on most of the group's songs. While Ron Stockert, an earlier
member, had added vocals to the debut and their follow-up, Rags to Rufus,
Stockert left after complaining of their label's focus on Khan, and
Tony Maiden would begin to lead on more songs as the seventies drew to a
close, Khan's presence continued to boost the group.
For their first album with MCA Records, which had absorbed ABC Records
a year before, the group enlisted Jones to help them with the record
(Khan had recorded with Jones the year before for his album Sounds...and Stuff Like That!!).
The group, while still with Khan, was now starting to record without
her, while Khan was starting to express a view of going solo for good
while still performing with the group onstage. Despite this, the album
became a success upon its release. Following Masterjam Chaka Khan recorded her second solo album Naughty and Rufus Party 'Til You're Broke, released in 1980 and 1981 respectively. Khan reunited with the band again in 1981 for the recording of Camouflage.
Jones had also brought in the Seawind Horns for help, as well as The Brothers Johnson for additional percussion help. Rufus even does a funked-up cover of Jones's own "Body Heat".
Deep jazz from a teenage prodigy. The first self-released album by
vibraphonist/composer/arranger Phil Hewitt. Originally custom pressed in
a run of fifty pieces.
The first volume from the Nelson Records series by the infamous Italian
Jazz quartet composed of Maurizio Majorana on the bass (M), Antonello
Vannucchi at the organ (A), Roberto Podio at the drums (R), and Carlo
Pes (C) on guitar. Seminal, deeply Underground session by the legendary
Italian Library studio combo with tones of sleazy sounds starting from
the Psychedelic guitar riffs, the crazy tough Funk and the groovy
sharped beats to the lovely Jazz arranged theme music influenced by
Samba, Bossa Nova and Easy Listening vibes of the time. I Marc 4
provided some of the best cinematic and theme music of the time, and
this is one of their deepest productions. Top Italian Library LP
production and unmissable piece for collectors of the genre!
An incredible album from this hip studio combo – and one that's every
bit a Hammond jazz album as it is a sound library rarity! The set's got
more organ than usual from I Marc 4 – mixed with some tracks that have a
great piano vibe too – all at a level that's very soulful, and which
feels a lot more like a small combo working the US underground scene of
the late 60s – instead of a bunch of cats working overseas in an Italian
studio!
It's hard for us to realize today how fresh was how exuberantly jazz
flowered in the sixties. In the United States Miles Davis was about to
gather his magnificent last quintet, and Coltrane - his last wonderful
quartet, their music doomed by the encroaching changes, while our
jazzmen barely discovered their possibilities...This Lp,
originally recorded in December 1964, reflecting upon unlimited creative
potential of Polish jazz legend Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski who is joined on
this record by Polish jazz piano prodigy Karolak and the best rhythm
section in Poland those days: Sandecki / Dabrowski.

Sweetly funky and very slinky – this is one of the best early 70s scores
by the great Italian composer Piero Umiliani! The record has lots of
bubbling electric piano, rumbling electric basslines, warm acoustic
percussion, and moody wordless vocals. At some level, the album sounds a
lot like the contemporaneous work by the great Italian Fender Rhodes
combo Crossfire – but it's also filled with a spacey madness that could
only come from the pen of Umiliani!

Never before commercially released library breaks monster recorded in
1975! Consisting of Romano Rizzati (Walter Rizzati), Silvano Chimenti,
and a loose assemblage of primo Italian library session-players, I Gres
recorded three blistering albums of funky library music.
A sublime selection of work from this legendary sound library
ensemble – an Italian group who were so cool, so groovy, they were
virtually a genre unto themselves – able to step easily between funky
numbers, jazzy groovers, and these odd, offbeat styles that are
especially nice! These record wonderfully wraps together a legacy of
Italian sounds from the whole late 60s/early 70s soundtrack era – served
up here without any sense of ego or need for identity at all – just a
commitment to cool, compelling music – filled with plenty of grooves in
the process.
“Cream” by The Black Fire is a nearly impossible to find italian LP from
1973. A Library album that mix several themes including psychedelic
sexy whispered scat vocals, space synth lounge, lazy bossa with
spinetta, fender rhodes and a lot of congas, bongos and insane flutes;
it also includes the killer wah-wah funk tune “Alcoholic” used years
later as the opening song of the kung fu movie Operation Cobra aka
Squadra Omicidi Chiama Cobra.

This monster Underground Disco classic was produced by the legendary
Patrick Adams and it’s considered to be one of his best and rarest
pressings. Released in 1977 on P&P Records, “Dance Dance Dance” was
ahead of its time laying ground for the signature sound he’d soon to be
known for on productions for the likes of Inner Life, Loleatta Holloway,
Bumblebee Unlimited, and Musique. This Classic release combines a
smooth blend of Latin rhythms, an infectious bass line and Arp keyboards
that create a dubbed out cosmic vibe, while Marta Acuna’s dreamy vocals
glide in and out. This is the perfect tune to close out an hot Friday night dancing, a NYC Disco Classic.
A legendary bit of funky fusion from the French scene of the 70s – the
standout set from Cortex, a combo who's very heavy on the keyboards!
The tunes have a feel that's quite different than American electric work
of the time – funky, but also a bit breezy too – with a strong
Brazilian influence in some of the rhythms, and hip use of female vocals
alongside the Fender Rhodes – which makes for a double layer of sound
that's totally great! There's a bit of alto sax in the instrumentation,
but most of the sound comes from the interplay between keyboards,
voice, bass, and drums – rolling along in a sound that's stunningly
soulful, and which makes the record one of the hippest European dates
from the decade.
One of our favorite albums of all times – and a legendary testament to
the greatness of the Chicago music scene in the late 60s! Melvin
Jackson was the bassist in Eddie Harris' very successful group of the
time – and his playing on Eddie's trippy and funky records for Atlantic
is one of the factors that made them so great. Here, he's working with
an acoustic bass, amplified with electronics like a Varitone sax – and
this strange-sounding instrument is set up in a hip group that mixes
Cadet funky studio players (Phil Upchurch, Morris Jennings, Jody
Christian) with some of the brighter young players of the AACM (Roscoe
Mitchell, Lester Bowie, and Leo Smith.) Jackson's bass is looped
through all sorts of crazy effects, and the result is this amazing blend
of avant garde playing and groovy rhythms that is beyond compare!

Be With Records present the first ever officially licensed reissue of Ned Doheny's Prone, originally released in Japan only in 1979. Aficionados rate Ned Doheny's Prone
as his finest achievement. This sophisticated masterpiece has been
unavailable on vinyl for over 35 years, so Be With Records pressed it on
audiophile 180 gram vinyl and restored the original Japanese artwork
for both jacket and classic lyric-insert. Featuring the superior
full-vocal version of "To Prove My Love". Ned Doheny's crowning glory,
even better than the superlative Hard Candy (1976). So quite why
this AOR/soft-funk gem has not been available legitimately on vinyl for
over 35 years is anyone's guess. A forgotten-funk classic. What makes
this release truly special is the inclusion of the full-vocal version of
jazz-funk classic "To Prove My Love". It's what you've all been waiting
for. Produced again by the legendary Steve Cropper, Prone's
super-smooth grooves showcase Ned's beautifully laid-back vocals,
virtuoso playing and forever-wry lyricism.
Massive grooves from a very unique group! These guys play guitar and
percussion all at once – in a flurry of fast grooves that rip away
tremendously, but with a style that's still plenty darn earthy! There's
definitely a bit of a global influence in the music overall, but the
sound comes out as pure funk in the end – tightly focused, and very
jamming – but not in a way that's ever too overindulgent. Some tracks
feature vocals by singers Leslie Vos and Renold Shearman, and
instrumentation includes guitars, organ, timbales, and congas.

Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (Italian: Emanuelle e gli Ultimi Cannibali) is a 1977 Italian cannibal film directed by Joe D'Amato. The film involves Emanuelle (Laura Gemser)
a photojournalist who discovers a woman in a mental hospital who is a
cannibal who has tattoos of an Amazonian tribe on her skin. Along with
Professor Mark Lester (Gabriele Tinti),
the two travel to the Amazon with a team to discover the source of the
long-thought-extinct tribe that still practices cannibalism today.
The film is an entry in the Black Emanuelle series and features elements of cannibal films which had just gained popularity after the release of Ultimo mondo cannibale (1977). D'Amato referred it in an interview as "a reasonable commercial success, especially abroad"
Plot
In a New York City psychiatric ward, photojournalist Emanuelle learns about a girl there who was found in the Amazon rainforest. Emanuelle discovers that she appears to have been raised by the Apiaca, a tribe of cannibals thought to be lost. She contacts Professor Mark Lester, the curator at the American Museum of Natural History, and persuades him to come with her to the Amazon.
Upon arrival at the Amazon, they are joined by Isabel Wilks, the
daughter of the organizer of the expedition, and Sister Angela, who is
going upriver to join a mission. Attacked by a snake, Emanuelle is
rescued by hunter Donald Mackenzie, who joins the group together with
his wife Maggie and their guide Salvatore and informs Sister Angela that
her convent has been attacked by what they presume to be cannibals, and
that no survivors remain.
The group continues into the jungle, now being watched by natives
in hiding. They find a severed head on a stake, and Sister Angela
disappears to be found impaled the next morning. Meanwhile, the
Mackenzies attempt to leave the group in an attempt to find a crashed
plane containing diamonds. As they stumble upon the plane, they are
attacked by a tribe of cannibals. Donald and Maggie are kidnapped. The
rest of the group only arrive in time to see it happen. They attempt to
find the cannibal village. Upon their arrival, the cannibals kill
Salvatore and capture Isabel. Mark and Emanuelle manage to escape only
to watch the Mackenzies being brutally murdered and Isabel impregnated
by the tribe in preparation for sacrifice. To save Isabel, Emanuelle
paints tribal symbols on her body to convince the natives that she is
their water goddess, and carries Isabel away into the water where Mark
is waiting in a speedboat. Shot at by the natives with spears, Mark,
Emanuelle and Isabel still manage to escape unharmed.

The story of Movements began in 1969 with Johnny Harris being hired as
musical director for Lulu’s BBC television show, “A Happening For Lulu”
which would feature a different artist each week along with a featured
instrumental section of Johnny Harris and his band playing popular hits
of the day that were requested by viewers. Lulu with Johnny Harris would
go onto winning Eurovision in 1969 with “Boom Bang A Bang” and Johnny
was signed to a three album deal with the newly formed U.K arm of Warner
Bros. The first album in this deal was Movements in 1970. The second
release for Warner Bros in the U.K Movements was recorded live at the
Royal Albert Hall in London.

This 1979 release has been the fourth solo effort of Venezuelan composer
and musician Daniel Grau. The music has been settled at the pulse of
its time for certain. Discofunk with a Latin melody and rhythm approach
surely was the hottest thing among the dancing folks back in the day and
the rather futuristical synthesizer arrangements turn these memorable
tunes into a spacey and spicy affair. The sound is perfect and the
performance equals its package. The compositions are quite long all in
all and therefore have a hypnotical effect on the listener and dancer.
The continuing pulsating groove comes in a repetitive manner creating a
floating atmosphere. This record is surely a product of its era and made
for disco lovers to dance on through the simmering nights, but unlike
most mainstream disco albums this record opens the gate to another
dimension touching the senses of everybody in reach when it gets played
on the turntable. Next to the similar massive Donna Summer works like “I
feel love” this is the true essence of disco music just entirely
instrumental with an emphasize on synthesizer melodies instead of
vocals. Drift away into your disco fantasy, folks!
A legendary record from one of the most unique Latin groups of their
time! In an early 70s world where many Latin combos were going for
class and poise, the Ghetto Brothers moved in another direction entirely
– working here with a fair bit of electric guitar alongside more
familiar Latin rhythms – all to push along some wonderfully soulful
vocals! The record's got a very different feel than most east coast
Latin work of the time – one that's a bit like some of the Chicano soul
of the west coast, but not nearly as smooth, and with a definite nod
towards both funk and singer/songwriter work of the mainstream! The
guitar's really upfront in the mix – riffing off at the start of most
tracks – and the vocals have a slightly sweet quality, supported by
harmonies from the rest of the group at times – making for a wicked
blend of modes that's extremely compelling.
Heavy funk from Reuben Wilson – one of the last great organ players to
emerge from the 60s Hammond scene, and one of the hardest hitting cats
at Blue Note during the funk years of the label! The album's a tight
one all the way through – performed with a combo that has Idris Muhammad
playing some nice snapping drums, plus Grant Green on guitar, Lee
Morgan on trumpet, and George Coleman on bass. Includes the funky cuts
"Hot Rod" and "Love Bug", plus other groovers like "Back Out" and "I'm
Gonna Make You Love Me".
If a cover was enough, we'd already love this record – but fortunately
the music's even better than the image on the front – which makes the
whole thing a stone cold winner! The album's a great early example of
the fresh, raw sound that was coming out of Colombia at the start of the
60s – a new take on the Latin styles of Havana, served up with maybe a
bit stronger emphasis on rhythm, and an instrumental approach that was
almost always more concerned with sounding raw than sweet! The
percussion is great, the horns are nice and sharp, and the instrumental
set is bursting with energy – on upbeat tracks that include "El
Chupaflor", "La Mafafa", "Roberto Ruiz", "Rito Esclavo", "La Varita De
Cana", "La Mano Descompuesta", and "Lamento Guajiro".By Dusty
A lost treasure from David Axelrod – an obscure 1970 rock project, and
one that's almost even hipper than his work with the Electric Prunes!
The style here is rock, but the sound is very much in an Axelrod mode –
quite spacious, and with this wonderful undercurrent of funk – bubbling
up beautifully from the drums, and given plenty of room between the
guitars in the mix, which appear to be both electric and acoustic.
There's some slight Latinesque tinges in the guitar – very much in
keeping with the barrio image on the cover, yet different than other
Chicano rock of the time – and the whole album's got a really poetic
feel, with lightly flowing lines that almost remind us a bit of Tim
Buckley at points, but with a definite Axlerod twist. Titles include "A
Hope", "The Truth", "In The Wilderness", "Proud Sorrow", and "Song Of
The Pirate".By Dusty Groove
There weren't many vocal albums on the Mainstream label during the early
70s, and this rare soul side is a real overlooked gem! Alice Clark has
a rich soulful voice, with a style that sounds a bit like Esther
Marrow, mixed with some of the lead vocalists in Voices Of East Harlem –
a really right-on sort of sound that's totally great, and way hipper
than most 70s chart soul! Arrangements are by Ernie Wilkins, who brings
in a touch of jazz – but again, with a much hipper feel than most of
his other backings – and most of the tracks are quite obscure,
well-written tunes – of the sort of material you might expect to hear
sung by Gil Scott-Heron or Donny Hathaway.By Dusty
Label : Crippled Dick Hot Wax! Value : A living legend, the German crooner, entertainer and jazz piano player Paul Kuhn
has become well known for commercial pop hits in the German hit parade
and for some TV shows, but his first and biggest love was jazz music.
With all his film and TV industry contacts, it seems natural that he
finally even worked out some library titles, which have been slumbering
in the archives for decades. Here we have discovered one of them:
"Gateway To Crime," from 1974. This title is definitely exceptional and
might irritate some of his fans, since it does not sound at all like the
typical German radio station big band stuff, but rather evokes New
York's Harlem street atmosphere. By forcedexposure
Here is a rare funky gem titled "Blue Jeans" by Alberto Baldan. This track was featured on Balden's 1974 album The Soul Of Ali 'Ben' Djamballa,
which is a much sought after LP by record collectors worldwide. The
good grooves from this record don't just start and stop with "Blue Jeans", as the album features a number of other great tracks including "Black Coffee", "Take Six", and "Niger",
which all tend to blend euro "library music" grooves together with a
touch Afro-flavored funk. As you might imagine, the record features a
number of solid breaks and worthy sampling material. Overall, the
hard-to-find album represents a fine dose of funky rare grooves. Enjoy!By americanathlete
Lyrical magic from pianist Ryo Fukui – a lost gem from the Japanese
scene of the 70s, and a beautifully flowing album throughout! Fukui's
got a wide-open touch to the piano that we totally love – and is easily
one of the best of his contemporaries on the Japanese trio scene of the
time – working in the open-ended mode that was allowed by labels in
Tokyo during the 70s, a style that was never too far outside, but which
really allowed the pianist to soar with a driving, rhythmic intensity.
There's a bit of a modal groove to some of the tracks on the album, but
more than that, there's just a beautiful sense of freedom – a love of
sound and texture that's never reduced to mere experimentation, and
which has Ryo taking full command of the keys to soar to the skies on
waves of acoustic soul. The group on the set features Yoshinori Fukui
on drums and Satoshi Denpo on bass – and tracks include "I Want To Talk
About You", "Scenery", "Autumn Leaves", "Early Summer", and "It Could
Happen To You".By Dusty Groove
