Chicken Curry & His Pop Percussion Orchestra - Stereo Discotheque 1973 (MFP)

Label : MFP

Value :

Yet another El Chicles in disguise LP and who can resist a band name like this one.
Released in 1973 by the Music For Pleasure budget label, this record was put together by the usual RKM Brussels team, Guy Delo, J. Sluzny and Ralph Benatar. 10 tracks in all (and not 12 as noted on the front cover), 7 groovy originals with funky titles like “Ghetto groove”, “Drums go nuts”, “The snake”... and 3 covers, notably Gato Barbieri’s “Last Tango in Paris”.
An alternate version of “Malaria Fever” named “Malaria febre” appears on another MFP LP by Brasil Tropical Sound. By oopswhoops.

Waldir Calmon - Waldir Calmon E Seus Multisons 1970 (Copacabana)

Label : Copacabana (re 1982 Beverly)

Value :

Marvelous groovy Latin Jazz from Brazilian pianist, composer, band leader and arranger Waldir Calmon. Plenty of good tracks here, the most terrific being “Tema De Marcia” to me…

Lee Konitz ‎- Stereokonitz 1968 (RCA)

Label : RCA

Value :

Lee Konitz (October 13, 1927 – April 15, 2020) as a result of pneumonia brought on by coronavirus.

Tommaso's charts delve into bop and cool, with Konitz primarily playing the Varitone (a form of electronic saxophone that was experimented with briefly and abandoned by reed players in the late '60s), though he does play some alto sax and also makes a rare appearance on flute (doubling on it in "Take Seven"). While the music from this 1968 session is enjoyable, even though the sound quality of the Varitone pales when compared to a regular saxophone, this remains one of Lee Konitz's more obscure recordings from the '60s".

Hareton Salvanini ‎– Xavana Uma Ilha Do Amor 1981 (FIF)

Label : FIF

Value :

A sexy soundtrack from 70s Brazil, but one that also works beautifully as a vocal set too! Hareton Salvanini wrote and produced the album, but he also sings on a number of the tracks too – in this great laidback style that's maybe a bit like Lo Borges at times, and which comes as a real surprise, if you were just expecting an album of slinky grooves! Make no mistake, there's still plenty of warm erotic elements in the mix too – keyboards, light strings, and a few gentle grooves – and the album has a number of instrumental tracks that still hold up its soundtrack end of the bargain.

Taste :

Hareton Salvanini ‎- Luana
