Roy Ayers Ubiquity – Red Black & Green 1975 (Polydor)

 Label : Polydor

Value :

An album that's a real turning point in the career of Roy Ayers -- a set that has him moving into funkier territory, but still with some of the jazzy currents of his 60s work -- thanks in part to a fantastic lineup of musicians that includes Charles Tolliver on trumpet, Sonny Fortune on soprano sax, Harry Whitaker on electric piano, and Garnett Brown on trombone! As you might guess from that lineup, there's a current of Strata East energy in the mix, fused through Roy's new vision for soulful expression in the 70s -- handled with some slight larger arrangements at times from the mighty William S Fischer, who really deepens the sound in a great way.
