Arthur Verocai's long-lost solo LP straddles the continents to fuse Brazilian tropicalia with American funk, yielding a shimmering, dreamlike mosaic of sound that both celebrates and advances the creative spirit. Employing a dizzyingly lush 20-piece string section, stiletto-sharp bursts of brass, and electric piano melodies that twinkle like stars, Verocai's heady productions draw on folk, jazz, and pop traditions from both sides of the equator to make music that is both immediately familiar and quite unlike anything else you've ever experienced. While its sun-kissed arrangements and insistent rhythms clearly evoke its Brazilian origins, Arthur Verocai nevertheless seems to exist somewhere far outside of space and time.

Η αστυνομία που ερευνά τα αίτια του ατυχήματος δεν πιστεύει τους ισχυρισμούς της μνηστής του Νίκου, η οποία διατείνεται ότι ο αρραβωνιαστικός της δολοφονήθηκε. Ο Κώστας αποδεικνύεται γνώστης των σχεδίων της γυναίκας του και του Νίκου, και η δήθεν εξαφάνιση του δεύτερου είναι δική του επινόηση για να πάρει εκδίκηση. Από 14 χρονών, είναι ήδη ένας αξιόλογος πιανίστας με ιδιαίτερη κλήση
στην Τζαζ, παράλληλα με την αγάπη του στην Ελληνική Μουσική, όπου
εμφανίζεται ως συνθέτης από το 1972 με τον δίσκο: 4 – 5 – 3.
Από τότε
έχει γράψει πολλούς δίσκους στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό, απ’ τους
οποίους πολλοί τιμήθηκαν με Χρυσή και πλατινένια διάκριση, από διάφορες
δισκογραφικές εταιρείες. Έγραψε, επίσης, μουσική και τραγούδια για τον
Κινηματογράφο, το Θέατρο και την Τηλεόραση. Από τους 45 Δίσκους του
χαρακτηριστικοί είναι: Η Διαδρομή, Λεύκωμα, Σήμερα, Συναξάρια, Ενδεκάτη
Εντολή, Μάθημα Σολφέζ, Επίθεση Αγάπης κ.α. Ως γνήσιος Μακεδόνας δεν
παρέλειψε να κυκλοφορήσει ένα δίσκο με παραδοσιακά τραγούδια της
Μακεδονίας με ερμηνευτή τον Μανώλη Μητσιά. Παράλληλα, έγραψε μουσική για
38 κινηματογραφικές ταινίες όπως: Γλυκειά Συμμορία, Knock Out, Το
Αγκίστρι, Εσύ κι Εγώ, Πρωινή Περίπολος, Shirley Valentine της Paramount

Οι πρώτες δουλειές της είναι στο χώρο του μόντελινγκ κάνοντας
εξώφυλλα σε περιοδικά και διαφημιστικά για την τηλεόραση. Σύντομα
περνάει στο χώρο της υποκριτικής με μικρούς ρόλους σε ταινίες όπως What a Way to Go! (1964), John Goldfarb, Please Come Home (1964), In Harm's Way (1964), και Agent for H.A.R.M. (1966). περιζήτητη ενώ το όνομα της στη μαρκίζα αρκεί για να γεμίσει τα σινεμά.
Ανάμεσα στις δουλειές της ξεχωρίζουν τα υποδειγματικά τζιάλι La Tarantola dal ventre nero (1971), Non si sevizia un paperino (1972) και La dama rossa uccide sette volte (1972), Στα βίαια αστυνομικά - γκανγκστερικά φιλμ Milano calibro 9 (1972), Casa d'Appuntamento (1972) και Con la rabbia agli occhi (1976) και οι σεξοκωμωδίες 40 gradi all'ombra del lenzuolo (1976), Spogliamoci così senza pudor (1976) και La moglie in vacanza... l'amante in città (1980). Hailing from Indianapolis, Ceasar Frazier was a funky soul-jazz organist
who recorded several albums for the Eastbound/Westbound label family
during the '70s. First making his mark in 1972 with one of saxman Lou
Donaldson's funkier bands, Frazier cut his first album Hail Ceasar!
later that year, which featured musicians commonly associated with the
Prestige label's jazz-funk outings -- Melvin Sparks (guitar), Houston
Person (tenor), and Idris Muhammad (drums). The follow-up, Ceasar
Frazier '75, featured the likes of guitarist Cornell Dupree and drummer
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie; the album's key track, "Funk It Down," was
later sampled by jazz-obsessed hip-hoppers Gang Starr for their "Ex-Girl
to the Next Girl." In 1978, Frazier resurfaced as a smooth soul/disco
vocalist with the LP Another Life, and while he showed some affinity for
the idiom, it failed to reinvent him as a commercial force outside the
jazz-funk marketplace. In addition to recording on his own, Frazier also
played keyboards in Marvin Gaye's backing band. ~ Steve Huey
A beautiful sound library gem from the legendary Alessandro Alessandroni
– recorded for the commercial Flipper label, and issued publicly here
for the first time ever! The music is sublime – that side of
Alessandroni that came closest to the bossa and vocal styles of Ennio
Morricone in the late 60s – with lots of breezy rhythms at the bottom,
and a blend of instrumental passages, wordless chorus lines from I
Cantori Moderni, and even some of that famous whistling from
Alessandroni himself! We especially love the chorus bits – as they
almost feel like The Swingle Singers trying to follow an Edda Dell'Orso
sort of pathy – blended here with cool keyboards, including some totally
wonderful electric harpsichord! By Dusty
Funky sounds from Croatia – presented here with a sweet 70s groove, and
some very offbeat vocals throughout! Zdenka Kovacicek has a completely
different way of phrasing than most other European singers we've heard –
all these weird twists, turns, and sharp little angles that are a
perfect fit for the quirky styles of the backings – which begin in a
mode that's clearly trying to emulate American soul of the time, but
which also moves into some weirder, more unusual territory too! There's
a few mellower cuts that have some nice Fender Rhodes – and some other
icy keyboards, too – and titles include "Necu Da Znam", "Dragi Mi Je
Lijep K'O Slika", "Mali Crnit Brat", "Kobra", "Elektra", "Muzika", and
"Hello Mr Elton John".
A killer collection of funky soul from the Caribbean – not tracks that
have a typical island sort of sound, with roots in calypso, soca, or
reggae – and instead just he kind of key cuts that match the best
underground work on the New York scene! Keep in mind that lots of
American disco came from musicians who'd moved up north from the
Caribbean – bringing a sunny spirit and driving rhythms in the process,
as well as a post-colonial, diaspora approach to the music – which was
then fused with American soul and funk for the clubs! This set has a
very similar vibe, but just reverses the process – with grooves that
borrow plenty from the hipper club styles of the late 70s and early 80s,
and come across with a freshly non-commercial vibe, given their
Caribbean roots. We'd never heard most tracks here before – hats off to

Back in 2009, DJ Harvey came knockin' at PBRC HQ to deliver a special
project he had in mind. Having a long and healthy relationship with the
dudes at Pacific Beach, Harv essentially produced a couple of edits that
could've well been next in line on his revered Black Cock label.
Eventually released in 2010, the 12" cuts caused a stir as some will
recall. Doc Severinsen is an accomplished American jazz/pop trumpet
player, and as a band leader gained considerable notoriety on The
Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Like most musicians in the 70's, Doc
took his shot at the disco and funk sounds of the time, gathered stellar
musicians, and released impeccably sounding works.
Two of these cuts, 'Be With You' and 'Shine On Me' are featured on this
release. Harvey's unfailing magic touch has yielded two DJ-friendly
edits with a lot of punch and galactic energy, yet with a velvet
undertone. Staying true to the mission, the label took great care
throughout the production process in order to preserve the quality of
the original recordings.Proprietary equipment was created to transfer
the original cuts from the source.
The mastering was conducted at Bernie Grundman in Hollywood, CA, known
for its work on the greatest albums of all time, such as Michael
Jackson's 'Thriller' and Steely Dan's 'Aja'.
The 2015 edition is noticeably different on the exterior. The cover art,
having been designed by Harvey back in 2009 for the original release,
commands attention.
At the time, however, the prevailing design had been already put into
play leaving these amazing creative elements put aside for a later time -
